StitchTested exists to answer one question well: which one should I buy? Most sewing, embroidery, serger and quilting machines content online is either a manufacturer's marketing or a list of whatever pays the highest commission. We try to do the opposite: start from what you're actually trying to do, and recommend the product that fits, including telling you when you don't need to spend more.
Who we write for
Our readers are beginners buying a first machine, quilters, embroiderers and small-business crafters. We write in plain language, explain the specs that actually matter, and say who each product is wrong for, not just who it suits.
What our recommendations are based on
We base every pick on evidence we can point to: manufacturer listings and manuals (hoop sizes, throat space, stitch counts, included feet), Amazon sales and rating data, and long-term owner reports. We publish the details of our process on our How we research page.
Every review carries a label. Spec review means we compared the machine on paper (manufacturer specifications, manuals and owner feedback). Sewn on means we ran real projects through the machine ourselves, and we say what we made.
How we make money
StitchTested is reader-supported. When you buy through our links to Amazon, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Commissions never decide which product we recommend, and we don't accept payment for placement. See our privacy and affiliate disclosure.
Keeping guides current
Products, prices and availability change constantly. Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and we re-check our recommendations and product data on a regular schedule. If something has changed, we update the page rather than leave old advice in place.
